What is Coachella?
In the past few years, Coachella has become one of the most popular festivals across the world. It is an annual two-weekend festival which celebrates music and art is held in the city of Indio, California. Though it is a California festival, people from all over the world travel to be a part of this festival and to see all of their favorite acts.
Many celebrities are seen at this festival, wearing their best hippy styles to make a fashion statement. Coachella is held across two weekends every April, though the dates aren’t always the same. The festival is generally celebrated on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. This time Coachella weekend one is on April 13–15, 2018 and weekend two is on April 20–22, 2018.
How did it start?
The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival has a fascinating backstory. It was started after the band Pearl Jam got into a fight with Ticketmaster over their service fees, demanding they were financially targeting both fans and artists. Because of this, Pearl Jam started to look into other venues for their Vs tour that didn’t consist of Ticketmaster. The band finally started using the Empire Polo Grounds in Indio, CA, which is where the festival is still held today. In 2012, the festival got so big that coordinators turned it into two separate weekends.
What is Coachella all about?
Though Coachella’s origin is all about music, it has become way more extensive than that in recent years. It features art installations and has also become the main fashion hotspot for bohemian-inspired styles. It’s also filled with celebrities, from the artists who are performing to stars who just want to chill. A-listers like Kendall Jenner, Jared Leto, Leonardo DiCaprio, and more are spotted there almost every year. The music festival is played out through five main stages: Outdoor Theater, the Coachella Stage, Gobi Tent, Mojave Tent, and the Sahara Tent. Major headliners are kept as the last acts, while smaller artists and bands play all over the day.
How much does it cost to attend?
General passes for Coachella cost $429 and are bought months in advance before the lineup is announced. VIP passes are available for $999. Once you’re there, you need a place to stay, as the festival is set in the desert. Passes for car camping are a little over $100.
