Magenetic Hill

Have you ever felt any destination pulling you towards itself. We can introduce you to one. The Magnetic Hill, located on the Leh-Kargil-Baltik national highway, about 30 km from Leh, is claimed to have magnetic properties strong enough to pull cars uphill. Magnetic Hill is at a height of 14,000 feet above sea level, on the Leh-Kargil-Batalik national highway, and is bordered by the Sindhu river.

There are rumors that natural or even supernatural forces cause the magnetic attractions along with some scientific reasoning to this phenomenon that defies gravity.

But there are no Magnetic power!! In actual the layout of the surrounding land produces the optical illusion that a very slight downhill slope appears to be an uphill slope. The optical illusion produced by the slope of gravity hills, thus, a vehicle left out of gear will appear to be rolling uphill.

The most important factor contributing to the illusion is a majorly hindered horizon. As, in the absence of a horizon it becomes difficult to judge the slope of a surface.

Usually it is a stretch of road in a hilly area where the level horizon is obscured. But there is another theory related to the Magnetic Hill. “Objects far away may seem smaller or larger than they really are” this theory is that false perspective which might also play a role. This is an outstanding but common illusion we find almost everywhere in the world.
