Meanwhile In India: Bata India’s Swachh Bharat, Swachh Vidyalaya initiative

Bata India Ltd. under its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative contributed to Prime Minister’s ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ by building 34 toilets at 3 government schools of Gurgaon in collaboration with Sulabh International Social Service Organization. The 3 schools where the toilets have been built are Dhankot Govt.  Senior Secondary School, Kadipur Govt. Senior Secondary School and Harsaru Govt. High School. The District Education Officer (DEO), Gurgaon, Dr. Manoj Kaushik, inaugurated all the toilets at the 3 schools , in the presence of Mr. Vikas Baijal, Senior Vice President- Human Resources, Bata India Ltd. and Mr. Asutosh Ghosh, Assistant Vice President –Human Resources , along with other members of Bata. Also, present on the occasion were the village Sarpanch, members of School Management Committee and students.

Speaking on the inaugural function Dr. Kaushik said , “ I am thankful to Bata India Ltd. for contributing towards Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and building toilets in our schools. It is very important that private companies also contribute in improving govt. schools.”

From Bata India’s team, Mr. Rajeev Gopalakrishnan, Group Managing Director, Bata- South Asia, commented, “Under our Swachh Bharat, Swachh Vidyalaya Abhiyan, we aim to cater to the sanitation & hygiene needs of the young girls and boys. We plan to build more toilets at the govt. schools where there is shortage of toilets. In order to make it a sustainable initiative, we would not only build toilets, but also maintain them for certain time period and conduct health & sanitation workshops to inculcate healthy practices amongst the students.”
